SIBO-ST3 is a solid stool made by combining three logs.
The logs used are Kitayama Artificially Striated Maruta, a specialty of the Kitayama region of Kyoto.
With its unique surface texture, Striated Maruta has long served as an important design material for sukiya (tea-ceremony house) style architecture and floor pillars of ordinary houses. Although there are fewer opportunities to see them in recent years due to changes in lifestyles, we feel that they are beautiful materials that reflect the meticulous attention to detail that the Japanese have paid to design.
SIBO ST-3 was created by liberating Striated Maruta from their use as construction materials and viewing them as material for furniture. The unique texture that emerges clearly when it is used in the size of a piece of furniture has a quiet presence in a space; as if it were just an object, while possessing the function of a stool. You can use it as a stool, as a side table, or enjoy placing it within a space as an object.
We designed two types: natural, which shows the charm of the material of Striated Maruta, and grey, which highlights the texture by painting the surface once and then scraping it off.

丸太を3つ寄り合わせて制作した重厚なスツールです。
使用した丸太は京都北山の特産品である、杉の人工絞り丸太。
表面に独特のテクスチャを携える絞り丸太は、古くから数寄屋建築や一般住宅の床柱など重要な意匠材としての役割を果たしてきました。近年生活スタイルの変化から目に入る機会が少なくなりましたが、日本人の意匠への細やかな拘りが凝縮された美しい素材であると感じています。
SIBO ST-3は絞り丸太を建材としての用途から解放し、家具の材料として捉えて制作しています。家具のサイズになると鮮明に浮かび上がるテクスチャの独自性は、スツールでありながらオブジェのように空間の中で静かな存在感を持っています。スツールとして、サイドテーブルとして、オブジェとして空間内での配置を楽しんだりと、自由な解釈で使っていただけます。
人工絞り丸太の素材の素の魅力を感じられるナチュラルと、一度表面を塗装して削ることで凹凸のテクスチャを際立たせたグレーの2種類を制作しました。
