DAY inc. Table and Stools for Office (2023)
DAY inc. is a company that works across a wide range of fields, including planning, design, and in-house operation of stores.
They shared SIBO's philosophy and we installed a table and stools for their new office. These are to be used as a place for staff interaction and for meetings with visitors.
The tabletop was designed in an oval shape to create a sense of unity among the people gathered there, and loowe was in charge of the construction.
For the legs, SIBO was in charge of everything from design to construction, and Kitayama shibori logs, which until then had been mainly used as construction material, were adopted as the material for the table legs.
We worked with DAY inc. to create a joint to fix the legs to the tabletop and to develop a way to use this material not only for this project, but also for future projects.
This project started as our first client work shortly after the establishment of SIBO.
It was a moment that paved the way for our activities.

『DAY inc. 事務所用テーブル&スツール』（2023）
DAY inc.様は企画、設計、店舗の自社運営など幅広い領域を横断しながら活動されている会社です。
SIBOの活動理念に共感を頂き、新事務所に設置されるテーブルとスツールを納品しました。このテーブルセットはスタッフの交流の場、事務所に訪れた人との会議の場で使用されるものです。
天板はその場に集う人たちの中に一体感が出るようオーバル形状の設計とし、loowe様に施工を担当して頂きました。
脚部はSIBOが設計から施工までを担当し、それまで建材としての使用が主とされてきた北山杉人工絞り丸太をテーブル脚の素材として採用しました。
この素材の転用が今回のプロジェクトのみに留まらず今後の展開が見込めるよう、一本脚単位でのあり方、天板と固定するためのジョイントの開発を目指し、DAY inc.様と共同で試行/思考を重ねながら制作を進めました。
このプロジェクトはSIBOの発足間もない頃にお声がけ頂き、初めてのクライアントワークとして始まりました。
それは我々の活動する道を大きく拓いていただいたような瞬間でした。

We created a part to improve the connection between the log and the table leg in the direction of the butt end of the log.
By digging into the wood at the top and bottom ends of the log and inserting a cylindrical steel element called a "manjuu," we were able to prevent the log from swaying in the horizontal direction and to provide a flexible connection and grounding with the tabletop.
At the top end of the log, a gap is provided between the top board and the "manjuu" to allow it to be lifted.
This gives the log, which is thicker than a typical table leg.
and has an image of being massive, a lightness, and a universally friendly impression to the log.
The steel plate attached to the bottom edge of each log is cut out to match the diameter of the log, which differs from one log to another, providing an adjustable function.
The intention was to respect the proportions of the logs themselves while responding to the constraints of the different thicknesses of the logs, which are natural materials.
These two operations are intended to lead to a shift/sublimation of the prevailing values about logs.

丸太をテーブルの脚として使用するにあたり、木口方向に対する結合を向上させるパーツを制作しました。
丸太上下端の木口を掘り込み、「饅頭(マンジュウ)」と呼ばれる円柱型の鉄部材を挿入することで水平方向への揺れ防止と、天板との接合及び柔軟な接地を可能にしています。
丸太上端では、天板との間に「饅頭」によって持ち上げられる隙間を設けています。
これによって、ズッシリとしたイメージのある丸太は軽やかさを獲得し、一般的なテーブル脚よりも太い丸太に普遍的な親しみやすい印象を与えます。
丸太下端に取り付く鉄板は、1本毎に異なる丸太の径に合わせて切り出しており、アジャスト機能を持たせています。
天然素材である丸太の 太さが異なる という制約へ応答しながら、丸太そのもののプロポーションが尊重されることを意図しました。
この2つの操作によって、丸太に対する一般的な価値観の転換/昇華に繋がることを目指しています。

The "SIBO ST-3" stool, made of Kitayama Shibori logs, was custom-made to match the round table.
SIBO ST-3 can be used as a stool, a side table, or an object by combining three shibori logs, which were originally used as a single unit, and making use of its unique texture.
The logs are painted white to match the table and the surrounding space, and a cushion is attached to the seat for frequent use during meals and meetings, etc. Compared to the usual SIBO ST-3, these have a stronger aspect as a product.
A total of 30 shibori logs are used in one space together with the table and stools.
This is a sight unseen in existing log values and usage, as logs used as floor posts have usually been used symbolically, one log per space. The table, with logs placed at an appropriate distance and equally spaced, and the stools, on the other hand, are made of logs leaning against each other and grouped together as a single mass, proposing a new way of looking at the space as a whole by maintaining balance.

制作したラウンドテーブルに合わせて、北山絞り丸太を用いて制作したスツール”SIBO ST-3”を特注仕様で設置しました。
本来は一本単体として使われる絞り丸太を三本よりあわせ、独特なテクスチャを活かしたSIBO ST-3はスツールやサイドテーブル、オブジェのように使うことができます。
今回はテーブルや周囲の空間に合わせて丸太を白色に塗装するとともに、食事の際や打ち合わせ時など普段から頻繁に使用していただくため、座面に合わせたクッションを取り付けました。SIBO ST-3の常時展開しているシリーズと比較し、プロダクトとしての側面を強く持たせています。
テーブル・スツールと合わせて一つの空間内に絞り丸太が合計30本使用されています。
