METAL Sibori-Maruta (2023)

This prototype work was born from the question of how to express artificial squeezed logs in metal.
The work was created using the etching process, a technique in which metal is artificially corroded by a chemical reaction to create unevenness.
The operation of melting the metal is established regularly with the passage of time, while containing elements of uncertainty.
This manipulation is reminiscent of the process of creating a tie-dyed log, and although the shape can be expressed by scraping or engraving, we thought that this processing method was closest to the process of creating an artificial tie-dyed log.
The appeal of this product is still in its infancy, and we are excited about its future development.

人工絞り丸太を金属で表現するにはという問いから生まれたプロトタイプ的作品です。
エッチング加工という化学反応によって人工的に金属を腐食させて凸凹を作る技法を用いて制作しました。
溶かすという操作は時間の経過と共に不確定要素を含みながらも規則的に成立していきます。
この操作性は絞り丸太を生み出す過程を彷彿とさせ、削り取ることや、刻印を打つことでも表現できる形状ですが、この加工法が最も人工絞り丸太の制作されるプロセスに近いと考えました。
このプロダクトが持つ魅力はまだまだ発展途上であり、今後の発展に向け胸を高鳴らせながら取り組んでいきます。
